Have you have always wanted to draw or paint and didn’t know where to start? Or do you already draw or paint but don’t quite know what you are doing? Then this course is for you. We will start right from the beginning and explore different ways of looking at objects that will enable you to draw them more effectively. I will show you basic colour mixing and we will start experimenting with various mediums including Acrylic, watercolour, charcoal, ink and pastel. This is a fun, information packed course that will set you on your way to becoming an artist (or just enjoying yourself drawing).

2. How to achieve depth and distance (6 weeks – once a week) beginner/intermediate
Do your drawings or paintings look flat and lifeless? This course shows you how to make your drawings/paintings look 3 dimensional. I will show you how perspective works and many other ways to achieve depth in your paintings. When you are finished your paintings will look like they come out of the canvas.

This course will look at how you can mix just the right colour that you have been looking for. We will explore variations of the colour wheel that will help you to mix any colour.

4. Trees and Forests (6 weeks – once a week)beginner/intermediate
This course shows you the fundamentals of drawing and painting trees realistically. I will show you how easy it is to create a forest (once we have an understanding of how to paint trees).

Have you ever wondered how to give your paintings life? Painting the essence of motion can breathe life and vitality to your pictures. This course explores the fundamentals of energy and motion and how to achieve this in your paintings.

6. Water and reflections – drawing and painting (6 weeks – once a week)intermediate/advanced
Dealing with reflections and refractions in water can be difficult for an artist. This course is aimed at demystifying how to achieve good water effects with both pencil and paint. Whether you paint seascapes, still life or anything in between, this course will help you to understand how reflections are formed and what we need to paint.

7. Creating Mood and Atmosphere (6 weeks – once a week)intermediate/advanced
Invoking a response from the viewer of your painting is the goal of most artists. As an artist your painting needs to create a mood and/or feeling in the viewer. This course shows you how methods of invoking feelings from your paintings. We will look at how the masters have done it and how we could go about doing it in our own paintings.
